Djimon Hounsou (center) crossed the finish line of Run Richmond 16.19 on Saturday. The two courses symbolized the first enslaved Africans arriving in Virginia in 1619. Runners pass the Richmond Slavery Reconciliation Statue on East Main St. as they take part in RUN RICHMOND 16.19 in Richmond, Va. on Saturday, September 17, 2022. The race, which celebrates the achievements of the African American community over the past 400 years through symbolic courses of 16.19 km and 6.19 m., was organized by the Djimon Hounsou Foundation in collaboration with the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia and Sports Backers.
